Pilots improve to 6-1 in GCAC with 76-58 win over Wolfpack

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots (15-6, 6-1) played host to the Loyola University Wolfpack (8-10, 1-5) in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Thursday night at the Dock. The Wolf pack slowed the Pilots up-tempo style of play but could not stop the potent Pilot offense who went on to win by a final score of 76-58.
Fredericko Payne finished with a game high 19 points and 4 steals in the Pilot victory. Derrick Sowell pitched in with 15 points, and teammate Derrick Rogers pitched in with 10 points and 4 assists. Derrick Hill entered tonight’s game as the nations leading shot blocker averaging nearly 5 per game, and added a game high 7 blocks and 8 rebounds.
The Pilots finished shooting just 38% from the field and were 7-22 from beyond the three point line. The key to the Pilots victory was forcing 28 Wolfpack turnovers which lead to 27 points. The Pilots turned the ball over 13 times.
Loyola’s leading scorer Zach Tyson finished with 17 points and a game high 9 rebounds. The Wolfpack finished shooting 46% from the field while connecting on 4-12 from beyond the three point line.
With the win the Pilots improve to 15-6 on the year and remain in second place in the GCAC at 6-1. The Pilots will be back in action Saturday night at the Dock versus Spring Hill College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
