February 26, 2004
The LSUS Pilots (19-11, 11-6GCAC) improved their home record to 12-1 on the year with their 10th win in 11 games Thursday night versus the Loyola University Wolfpack. In the first half the Pilots built a 41-35 lead behind the hot start of Fredericko Payne who was 7-11 from the field for a total of 17 points. The pilots went on to win the game by a final score of 71-65.
Loyola mounted many comebacks as they pulled within 2 points four times in the half but could never regain the lead from the Pilots. LSUS guard Fredericko Payne was held scoreless in a half for the first time this season by the Wolfpack, but could not stop the supporting cast of the Pilots offense. Derrick Rogers finished as the high scorer for LSUS with 18, followed by teammate Derrick Sowell who recorded the games only double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Brandon Malveaux pitched in with 8 points off the bench late in the second half. James Bunn was the games high scorer with 27 points on 9-16 shooting for Loyola.
The Pilots will travel to Hattiesburg Saturday to take on William Carey College in their final regular season competition. The Pilots then look ahead to the GCAC Conference Tournament which will be held in New Orleans at the Alario Center beginning Wednesday, March 10-13.
