Pilots fall to Our Lady of the Lake

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - The no. 6 LSU Shreveport Pilots men's basketball team did not have an answer for the long-shooting Our Lady of the Lake Saints on Wednesday night at Mabee Gymnasium as they fell 112-94. The Saints knocked down 51% from downtown including 12 for 21 in the first half.LSUS (3-4, 1-1) found themselves down by 11 at the half as the Saints shot 57% from long range. The home team took just eight attempts from beyond the arc in the second half making three.
LSUS' Derrick Parker and OLLU's Josh Orta led the scoring as each poured in an impressive 31 points which is Parker's season high. Parker grabbed 13 rebounds to get his fifth double-double of the season which was also the fifth time this season he has scored 20 or more points and the first time to reach the 30 plus plateau.
He was not alone in double figures for the visitors as he was joined by three others. Greg Shyne sank two dozen points while Isiah Bazile helped out with 17 points of his own. Jake Greene made three from downtown and three from the charity stripe to finish with a dozen. Parker and Shyne played stellar defense as well as Parker blocked three shots and had two steals while Shyne led the team with three take aways.
OLLU (4-3, 2-0 RRAC) spread the scoring around as they finished with four more scorers in double figures in addition to Orta. Marco Cooper and Lo Ron Smith eached had 16 points while Juan Ortiz (12) and Ricardo Zanini (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers.
The Saints' defense pressed the Pilots into 28 turnovers including 17 steals but the Pilots gathered more rebounds 34-27.
The Pilots will return home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to face the no. 10 Texas Wesleyan Rams at The Dock. The Rams are currently 2-0 in the RRAC and 5-1 overall and come off a 92-75 thumping of Paul Quinn.
