October 20, 2011
BROWNSVILLE, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots soccer team dropped a tough game to the University of Texas-Brownsville Scorpions 5-1 on Thursday night at Scorpions Soccer Field.UTB (9-4-2, 7-1-1 RRAC) got the game's first goal at the 38th minute from Frederik Ekvall that gave the Scorpions a 1-0 lead at the half. The home team netted the second goal of the game at the 56th minute from Leigh Veidman with an assist from Orrin Farrell to put UTB up by two.
LSUS (5-9, 4-5 RRAC) fought back with a goal two minutes later to bring the Pilots within one with Jesus Garcia getting credit for the assist.
The Scorpions put the game away with three goals over an eight minute span with goals from Farrell (60:10), Veidman (64:29), and Fabio Santos (67:51).
Despite the final score the Pilots outshot the Scorpions 25-22 with UTB getting the edge with 10 shots on goal to the Pilots' eight.
Even with the loss the Pilots are still in the hunt for the final spot in the RRAC Tournament. LSUS needs to win their final two games of the regular season (@OLLU and vs. Northwood) and Northwood needs to lose their final two games (@ UT-Brownsville and @ LSU Shreveport).
The next game for the Pilots will be on Saturday in San Antonio, Texas, against Our Lady of the Lake at 1 p.m. A win will keeps the Pilots hopes alive for the post season but a loss would end their hopes despite the outcome of the Northwood/UT-Brownsville game.
