Pilots escape with 10-9 win over ETBU

March 18, 2004

The LSUS Pilots (15-9) jumped out to a 10-2 lead with a 7 run fifth inning which was capped off by a three run homerun by Chris Frye (1). Frye led the Pilot offense with a 2-3 performance at the plate which included 2 runs, 4 RBI's and the first homerun of his college career.

ETBU responded in the top of the sixth with six runs of their own off reliever Jeremie Chabot. Chabot was the victim of some sloppy LSUS defense as only one of the six runs allowed was earned.

The Tigers mounted a 9th inning rally as they had runners on 1st and 3rd with only one out. The Pilots looked to senior pitcher Mitchell Person to get them out of the 9th inning jam. A ground ball to third baseman Brian Cooksey with one out allowed the runner from first to advance to second but did not score the tying run as LSUS got the out at first base. Person fanned the next Tiger hitter on a 2-2 curveball to collect his first save of the year and gave the Pilots their 15th win of the year.

Kevin Jewell (3-1) picked up the win in this one while only allowing one hit over his 3 innings of work. LSUS left fielder Cody Samford was 3-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Dustin Bissonnett was 3-5 on the night with a run scored and 2 stolen bases as the Pilots lead-off hitter.

LSUS will be in action again Friday night when they will host Belhaven College in a three game series. Game one is scheduled for Friday night at 6:30pm.
