Pilots enter RRAC Tourney as no. 1 seed

SHREVEPORT, La. - The no. 9 LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball team will begin play in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament as the no. 1 seed on Saturday night at Pilot Field at 6:30 p.m. against the no. 6 seed Texas College Steers.The Pilots have experienced success in the conference tournaments as they have won four of their last five, all of which were in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. This year's RRAC Tournament will be the Pilots second appearance in the tournament since 2000 when they were a member of the RRAC before making the change to the GCAC for the 2001 season.
The first round game will be the fourth meeting between LSUS and Texas College this year with the Pilots winning the first three games in Tyler as they outscored the Steers 42-20. The Pilots come off their first series loss all season as they dropped two out of three to Texas Wesleyan last weekend while the Steers took two of three games from the SAGU Lions in the final series of the year.
The RRAC Tournament will consist of a six-team double elimination bracket with all five schools coming to Pilot Field for the first time this season as the Pilots traveled to each team's site for the regular season meetings this year.
The Pilots experienced success in their first season back in the RRAC as they claimed the regular season title with three games to go as they clinched with their series win over UT-Brownsville.
LSUS also swept the no. 5 seed Wiley College outscoring the Wildcats 26-15. The Pilots took two of three games from the no. 2 seed Northwood Knights and the no. 4 seed UT-Brownsville Scorpions. LSUS outscored the Knights 42-16 and 15-7 over the Scorpions.
In the Pilots only series loss of the season in the RRAC they managed to outscore the Texas Wesleyan Rams 14-11 but dropped the first and final game of the series. The Rams enter this year's tournament as the defending champions.
The first game of this year's tournament will be game two in the bracket on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. matching the no. 2 Northwood Knights against the no. 5 Wiley Wildcats. The second game of the day and game three in the bracket will match the no. 3 seed Texas Wesleyan Rams against the no. 4 seed UT-Brownsville Scorpions at 3:00 p.m.
