Pilots earn championship game birth with wins over Crusaders and Blazers

May 08, 2004
The LSUS PIlots had their backs against the wall when they lost an 8-6 decision to Belhaven College Thursday night. The loss put the Pilots in the losers bracket of the GCAC Tournament and in a matchup versus the #6 ranked William Carey College at 12:00pm Friday. In a game full of emotion and extraordinary defense, the Pilots pulled off a 4-3 victory to keep their season alive.

The Pilots then had to wait for the afternoon game to finish which saw the University of Mobile Rams knock off the Loyola Wolfpack in a 5-4 thriller.

LSUS then took the field facing elimination once again versus the Blazers, looking to avenge the 8-6 loss suffered Thursday.

The Pilots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back. The Blazers chipped away at the Pilot lead but lost by a final score of 9-6.

With the Pilots win Friday they earned a spot in the GCAC Tournament championship game. The Pilots have the good fortune of being able to watch the 1:00pm game between the Rams and the Blazers to see who their opponent will be at 4:00pm.

The Pilots will send senior and all time wins leader Gene Stevens to the mound looking to capture their first ever GCAC Championship.
