Pilots drop first GCAC series to Wolfpack

Shreveport, LA---The Loyola University Wolfpack overcame a two run deficit of the top of the 9th inning in game one and came away with a 9-8 victory over the LSUS Pilots. The Pilots responded with an 11-7 victory in game two, but dropped game three by a final score of 6-5 which resulted in the Pilots first conference series loss of the season.

The Pilots took an 8-6 advantage into the 9th inning of game one, but three consecutive errors loaded the bases and set the stage for an RBI double by Wolfpack shortstop Andy Rodriguez, and an RBI single by pinch hitter Todd Hubbell which gave the Wolfpack a 9-8 lead.

The Pilots were retired in order in the bottom of the 9th by Wolfpack reliever Chucky Benach who was credited with the win.

Matt Clayman (6-2) suffered the loss after allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits while striking out two.

Dustin Bissonnette led the Pilots to a 12-7 victory in game two going 2-3 which included a three-run homerun and two runs scored.

The Wolfpack belted 11 hits in game three and capitalized on three Pilot errors to take game three by a final score of 6-5. Trey Fury and Rodriguez each collected two hits and a run scored to lead the Wolfpack offense.

LU improved to 16-22 overall on the year and sit at 7-14 in the GCAC.

The Pilots now sit in second spot in the GCAC at 14-7, and are currently 27-14 overall.
