Pilots drop 34th ranked Dillard 90-83

The LSUS Pilots (17-11) improved their home record to 10-1 on the year with a 90-83 victory over Dillard University Blue Devils who are ranked 30th in NAIA Men's Division I Basketball. The Pilots built a 45-38 first half lead behind the hot hands of Fredericko Payne and Derrick Rogers. Payne finished the first half with 22 points which included 4 three pointers. Derrick Rogers connected for 13 points in the half. Eric Bell was the leading scorer for Dillard in the first with 9 points.
The Pilots were able to maintain their first half lead throughout the entire second half. The Blue Devils managed to cut the lead to 3 points in the last minute, however the Pilots connected on 6 free throws in the last minute to escape with the victory. The Pilots finished 28-39 from the line. Fredericko Payne was the Pilots leading scorer with 31 points. Teammate Derrick Rogers finished with a season high 30 points.
The Pilot victory puts them in a tie for fourth place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference with Dillard University, both with conference records of 9-6. LSUS is looking to improve on their GCAC standings Saturday night when they host the seventh place Spring Hill College Badgers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
