Pilots downed by Northwood in final regular season game

October 29, 2011
SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots soccer team's season came to a close on Saturday afternoon at The Swamp with a 2-1 loss to the Northwood Knights.

Northwood (9-8, 7-4 RRAC) scored the first two goals of the game in the first half of play with strikes from Ulysses Mendoza (33:36) and Edgar Sosa (42:21). Gabriel Elizondo was credited with an assist on Sosa's gaol.

LSUS (5-11, 4-7 RRAC) made things interesting with a goal in the second half during the 62nd minute with Joey's Morvant's fifth goal of the season to bring the Pilots within one with nearly 30 minutes to play.

The Pilots managed to outshoot the Knights 10-9 but both teams each had five shots on goal.  Unfortunately the four Pilot seniors were not able to get a win in their final collegiate game. Joseph Eades, Luis Valladares, Jesus Garcia, and Eduardo Hernandez were the four seniors recognized before the game.

Eades played in 13 games in his two seasons with the Pilots scoring two goals this season while Valladares played in all 16 games this season and had three assists. He has one more year of eligibility if he decides to return for another year.

Garcia played the previous two seasons for the Pilots as he played in 27 of the teams 32 games over the past two years. This season he allotted three assists. Hernandez played in 26 of the previous 32 games over the last two seasons with an assist in each of the years but scored his first goal in a Pilot uniform this season, a game winner at Texas College.

The Pilots will look for some strong spring practices to get ready for next season.
