Pilots defeat Southwest

October 06, 2011
SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots soccer team came away with a 1-0 win over the Southwest Mustangs on Thursday afternoon at The Swamp for their win of the season.

The Pilots (3-7, 2-3 RRAC) and the Mustangs (1-8-1, 0-4-1 RRAC) played a scoreless first half but it only took the Pilots 42 seconds into the second half as Luis Valladares connected a pass to Brian McKay who took the Southwest keeper, Harrison Hamorsky, on one on one and beat him to score the game's only goal. This was McKay's second goal of the season and Valladare's second assist as both players now lead the Pilots in those statistical categories.

LSUS had numerous chances to score in the second half but one goal was enough. The Pilots outshot the Mustangs 12-9 in the second half and 17-14 for the game. The home team only had four shots on frame while the visitors put six between the posts.

Lance Quini and Carson Bath combined for the shutout win for the Pilots and each had three saves. Quini played the first 64 minutes of the game while Bath played the final 26. Harrison played all 90 minutes for Southwest and allowed the game's only goal and had three saves.

The next game for the Pilots will be on Saturday at The Swamp against the Texas Wesleyan Rams at 3 p.m.
