Pilots Defeat McNeese State University in Exhibition Contest

November 01, 2007

Lake Charles, La. – The LSUS men’s basketball team picked up their first ever win against a NCAA Division 1 opponent on Wednesday night with a 86-80 victory over McNeese State University.

Senior Jamon Morris poured in 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading the way for the Pilots in both categories.  Sophomore point guard Jared Stevenson, a transfer from Northwestern State University, added 17 points in his LSUS debut.

“Tonight’s win is not only special for this year’s team, but it’s really a tribute to the winning tradition that all of the players and coaches from the past four years have established for our program,” said head coach Chad McDowell.  “Our guys truly believe that they can win every time they step on the floor, no matter the opponent.  And that’s the way it should be.”

All five starters for the Pilots finished the game scoring in double figures.  Seniors Josh Porter, Travis Cash and J’Quincy Jones each had 13 points apiece in the victory.  Jones also pulled down eight rebounds on the evening, while Cash chased down seven rebounds of his own.

LSUS will be back in action for their first regular season game on Friday night versus Paul Quinn College in the Pepsi Classic at Southwest Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas.

Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
