Pilots defeat Central Baptist College 100-86

In men’s hoop action Thursday night, LSUS played host to the Central Baptist College Mustangs. In early season action it was the Mustangs who got the best of the Pilots with an 83-82 victory in Conway, Arkansas. Tonight the Pilots got their revenge with a 100-86 victory over the Mustangs.In the first half the Pilots jumped ahead right off the tip and led the entire half. At the break it was LSUS leading 44-34. Scoring leaders for the Pilots in the first half were Derrick Rogers with 11 points, Derrick Sowell 9, and Justin Collins had 8 points to go along with 3 assists. Robert Davis was the leading scorer for the Mustangs with 11.
In the second half, the Pilots came out with their best offensive explosion of the year. Rico Payne, the leading scorer for the Pilots this year entered the second half with 8 points. With 30 seconds left in the game he drained his 8th 3-point basket of the game which gave the Pilots 100 total points for the first time this season. Payne finished with 33 points on 12 of 27 shooting from the floor. Derrick Rogers continued his steady play for the Pilots pitching in with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Justin Collins finished with 16 followed by Derrick Sowell who pitched in with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
The 100-86 win over the Mustangs puts the LSUS Pilots back to the .500 mark at 10-10 on the season. They will be back in action again at home Saturday night at 7:30, when they will play host to William Carey College. The LSUS Lady Pilots tip-off at 5:30.
