Pilots Clinch Share of GCAC Title With Victory Over Tougaloo
February 29, 2008
Shreveport, La. – The LSUS Pilots clinched a share of the GCAC regular season championship with their 79-70 win over Tougaloo College on Thursday night.
Josh Porter poured in a game-high 29 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including making six three-point baskets.
The Pilots jumped out to an early 15-5 lead and would never trail again in the contest.
After trailing 37-23 at the half, the Bulldogs would cut the Pilots lead down to just six with four minutes remaining in the contest. However, a determined effort by the Pilot players helped them hang on for a nine-point win.
Seniors Jamon Morris and Travis Cash each finished with double-doubles, while dominating the boards all night long. Morris scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, and Cash added 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
LSUS shot 42% from the field in the contest, while limiting the Bulldogs to just 33% for the game. A tough Pilots defense forced the Bulldogs to settle for jump shots, as the Bulldogs ended the night with 36 three-point attempts, making just 10.
The Pilots can claim the GCAC title outright on Saturday night with a win over the William Carey Crusaders or a University of Mobile loss. LSUS will face the Crusaders at 6:00 PM on Saturday, and the game can be heard live over the internet via teamline.
