Pilots climb their way back into NAIA Top 25
April 19, 2007
At 33-10 overall and just one game behind the No. 9 Belhaven College Blazers (36-12, 19-5 GCAC) in the race for the 2007 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship, the LSUS Pilots (18-6 GCAC) have fought their way back into the NAIA Top 25.
The No. 25 Pilots have posted a 12-2 record over their last 14 games which was highlighted by a nine game GCAC winning streak, and a 17-11 victory over NCAA Division I opponent, University of Louisiana-Monroe.
With just six regular season conference games left, the Pilots still hold their GCAC Championship hopes in their own hands. The Pilots will travel to Jackson, MS this upcoming weekend to take on the Blazers in a three game series. Game one will begin Friday night at 6:00pm which will be followed by a double-header on Saturday beginning at 1:00pm.
Fans who are unable to attend this weekends much anticipated series can listen to all the live action with the voices of the Pilots, Mark Cantrell and Chris Porche, at www.lsus.edu/baseball.
OLATHE, Kan. - Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) remained atop the NAIA Baseball Top 25 with 498 points and 18 first-place votes, followed by Azusa Pacific (Calif.), Oklahoma City, Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) and St. Thomas (Fla.) in an unchanged top five to this week's Top 25 rating.
Spring Arbor (Mich.) leads of the Top 10's second half, moving two spots into the No. 6 position, followed by Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.), Tennessee Wesleyan, Belhaven (Miss.) and Bellevue (Neb.). Belhaven is the only newcomer to the Top 10, moving in after spending last week at No. 11.
Three unranked teams climbed in, led by Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at No. 23 and Dickinson State (N.D.) at No. 24. LSU-Shreveport enters in a No. 25 tie with Avila (Mo.). One large drop occurred, as Lubbock Christian (Texas) fell from No. 10 to No. 19, while Warner Southern (Fla.) moved from No. 19 to No. 15.
