March 25, 2009

Shreveport, La. – The LSUS Pilots baseball team jumped up one spot in the latest NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, entering this week’s rankings as the No. 5 ranked team in the nation.

LSUS (29-4) is off to the best start in the program’s history.  They are coming off a week in which they knocked off the No. 1 ranked team in NCAA Division 2, while also picking up two key conference victories over the University of Mobile to improve their overall GCAC record to 19-1.

The Pilots received one first-place vote in this week’s rankings, and currently lead the NAIA in wins with 29.

The No. 5 ranking is the second highest ever for the Pilots, as they finished the 2004 season ranked No. 3 in the country.

LSUS will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Belhaven Blazers in a three-game conference series that features the top two offenses in the GCAC.  The Pilots and Blazers are scheduled to play one game on Friday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
