Pilots Blast Generals, 15-1

January 30, 2009

Shreveport, La. – No. 15 LSUS improved to 4-0 on the season, winning their home opener 15-1 over LSU-Alexandria on Friday night at Pilot Field.

The Pilots plated two runs in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Craig Barnes and an RBI single by the reigning GCAC Player of the Week Brent Lavallee to take an early 2-0 lead.

After LSUA scored a single run in the top of the third, LSUS answered on another RBI single by Lavallee, giving the Pilots a 3-1 advantage.

Senior Jeff Garidel continued his early season hot bat with a solo shot in the fourth for his third homer of the season in just four games.

The Pilots opened up the contest in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on just two hits.  Following a leadoff walk by Brandon Bravata, Andrew Blubaugh lined a double into right center to score Bravata.  LSUS then loaded up the bases on three walks before David Bradley cleared them with a three-run double to put the Pilots ahead 9-1.

LSUS added six more in the sixth with four runs coming off the bat of senior Quinton Shamsabady.  Shamsabady belted a two-out grand slam over the left field fence, as the Pilots extended their lead to 15-1 at the end of six.

Justin Ennis (2-0) gave up just one run in five innings, earning his second victory on the year.  LSUS reliever Scott Petroski closed out the game with a scoreless six and seventh innings, as the Pilots picked up their fourth consecutive victory to start the season.

LSUS and LSUA will play again tomorrow afternoon in a double header beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Pilot Field.
