Pilots blank LeTourneau

August 31, 2012

LONGVIEW, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport men's soccer team picked up a pair of goals in the second half to defeat the LeTourneau YellowJackets 2-0 on a pleasant Friday evening at the LeTourneau Soccer Complex.

LSUS (2-1) broke the scoreless game during the 66th minute as Alex Curry scored unassisted to put the Pilots on top 1-0. Later in the half defender Nick Montz crossed a pass to Alan Arroyo who scorched it with his left foot for the second and final goal of the contest as it sizzled past the keeper.

LeTourneau (0-1) struggled to find the back of the net in their season opener but had plenty of chances as they outshot the Pilots 22-18 overall as LSUS' keeper Lance Quini was stellar in the net minding the goal for his first shutout of the season while saving seven.

The first 45 minutes of action saw plenty of action but neither team was able to score. Each team took a total of 11 shots but only one on goal for LSUS while five were on frame for LeTourneau.

For the Pilots, it's their second straight 2-0 victory of the season.

The next contest for the Pilots will be at The Swamp on Saturday, September 8, versus Faulkner University at 4 p.m.
