Pilots baseball hosts LSUA today in double header

March 15, 2011

SHREVEPORT, La. - The no. 13 LSU Shreveport Pilots will host the LSU-Alexandria Generals today at Pilots field in a double header with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

The LSU Shreveport Pilots have won 14 of their last 15 games including their last seven in a row. The Pilots have the number one scoring offense in the NAIA with 237 runs scored this season and are ranked in the top 8 in the NAIA in 10 other offensive categories.

Manny Estrada has hit safely in 15 straight games and has his batting average up to .354 while Shawn Moy is starting to come around as he has a five game hitting streak.

Kevin Smith now leads the club in average hitting .446 following a monster week at the plate last week as he was 11-15 with a double, a triple, two homers and 14 RBIs. He has the 4th best slugging percentage in the NAIA at .878, he is 5th in homers with 8 and is 7th in Runs Batted In with 31. Smith currently has a seven-game hitting streak and has drove in at least one run in the last five games.

Andrew Brouillette leads the nation in home runs with 11 and is 2nd in the NAIA in RBIs with 36. He has compiled an .867 slugging percentage which is 6th best in the country.

Chase Wentz has drawn 11 walks in the last four games for the Pilots and is a continuous threat on the bases as he has swiped 18 in 21 attempts. He is currently hitting .432 and ranks 6th in the NAIA in Runs Scored with 31.

The LSU Alexandria Generals have struggled in the win column this year but 10 of their 13 losses have been by 6 runs or less. They defeated Wiley College 8-7, William Carey 4-2, and ETBU 7-2 for their three wins this season. Tid Hilger leads the team in batting with a .405 average and he also leads the team in RBIs with 9 and has one of only two homers this year for LSUA.

Both teams will be using multiple pitchers in the double header since both are coming off of three-game weekend series. The Pilots will need to save as much arms as they can as they will take on Northwood this weekend on the road in a series that could ultimately decide the RRAC regular season champion while LSUA will be playing seven games over the next five days.
