Pilots Baseball hosts defending National Champ Cumberland today at 3:00 p.m.

SHREVEPORT, La. - The no. 13 LSU Shreveport Pilots will host the defending national champions the still no. 1 Cumberland University Bulldogs today at 3:00 p.m. at Pilot Field.
The LSU Shreveport Pilots have won ten of their last 11 games including three in a row. The Pilots come off a three-game series sweep of the University of the Southwest.
LSUS has one of the top offenses in the NAIA as they rank first in Runs Scored with 186 and also first in RBIs with 172. Their 12 triples ranks second best in the country while they are 4th in HRs per game with 1.5 and are 6th best in the nation with a slugging percentage of .570. The Pilots are averaging 8.4 runs per game this season which ranks 8th in the country and their 211 hits to this point is 8th best in the NAIA.
Andrew Brouillette leads the nation in home runs with 11, RBIs with 32, total bases with 66. He has a slugging percentage of .957 which is 8th best in the NAIA. Brouillette and Chase Wentz have scored 24 runs this season which ties them for 9th best in the country.
Wentz has dangerous speed on the bases as his 17 stolen base attempts is third best in the NAIA while he has legged out six triples this season which is 6th best in the country. He has swiped 14 bases this season as he ranks 8th in the NAIA.
The Cumberland University Bulldogs are the defending National Champions as they finished last season with an overall record of 58-9 as they did not lose a game in the post season. They half of their pitching staff from last year while only returning three everyday starters. They return 15 letter winners from a year ago but lost 19.
They currently have lost two games in a row as they were swept by Northwood University on Tuesday 15-7 and 5-4 snapping their five-gave win streak. The Bulldogs defeated Texas Wesleyan for two games earlier in the week 6-5 and 7-1 in Fort Worth.
Mike Mandarino leads the team in average batting .351 while Cory Farris leads the team with six home runs and tied with Mandarino with 19 RBIs. The Bulldogs are 23-29 in the stolen base department while Antonio Butler is 8-8 leading the team and Tommy Winegardner is 5-6.
