Phillips leads Lady Pilots to 57-46 victory over Louisiana College

Pineville, La--- The Lady Pilots struggled early as the Lady Wildcats jumped out to an early 13-4 lead, but LSUS stormed back to regain the lead at the half, 26-25. The Louisiana College defense however could not stop Trish Phillips as she poured in 18 points for the secondstraight night to lead the Lady Pilots (3-2) to a 57-46 victory over the Louisiana College Lady Wildcats (0-2).

The Lady Wildcats struggled from the field shooting 27% on the game and were only 5-26 from beyond the three-point line. They were 7-11 from the free throw line.

Despite a poor first half, the Lady Pilots shot nearly 50% in the second half and finished 19-47 from the field. LSUS was 5-15 from the three-point line and connected on 14 of 25 free throw attempts.

Trish Phillips led the Lady Pilot scoring with 18 points on 7-14 shooting. Renalda Stafford was 3-3 from the field and finished with 11 points. Kendera Monette had 4 points and pulled down a game high 12 defensive rebounds.

Kim Reed was the leading scorer for the Lady Wildcats with 18 points. Edie Leonards finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds.

“I wasn’t happy with the way we played in the first half but we managed to stay in it. I thought we made a good adjustment at halftime and came out with better intensity on defense which was the key to tonight’s game.” commented Lady Pilots head coach Ronnie Howell.

The Lady Pilots now must look ahead to Saturday when they will take on NCAA Division I opponent Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
