Pearson, Lackie claim Player of the Week Honors

WACO, Texas - Kyle Pearson of LSU Shreveport stood out as the Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for March 19-25, while Matt Lackie of LSUS and Clayton Woodruff of Northwood University (Texas) received RRAC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors for the same dates.
Pearson, a junior leftfielder/first baseman from Stonewall, La., launched three home runs and collected 10 RBIs as the Pilots completed a three-game sweep at Huston-Tillotson University (Texas). He connected for a round-tripper and two RBIs in the middle game as LSUS won, 13-0. In the finale, he was a triple short of the cycle while going 4-for-4 with a pair of grand slams to drive in half of the Pilots' runs in a 16-0 victory. For the week, Pearson was 6-of-10 with three runs scored, a double and a walk. LSUS is ranked sixth in the NAIA with a mark of 26-3 on the season and a conference record of 14-3.
Lackie, a senior pitcher from McKinney, Texas, posted the 13-0 shutout for the Pilots while surrendering only three hits. He struck out 11 and walked one in seven innings of work.
Woodruff, a freshman pitcher from Prosper, Texas, also tossed a three-hitter with a complete-game effort for a 3-0 victory over the University of Texas-Brownsville. He compiled eight strikeouts and three walks in seven innings for the 24th-ranked Knights.
Austin Atwell of Northwood and Josh Cappello of University of the Southwest (N.M.) were additional player of the week nominees. Justin McGee of Bacone College (Okla.) was also nominated for pitcher of the week.
