One miracle after another!
December 01, 2006
I am glad to report that Josh Porter’s surgery was successful and he walked this morning on his own power. The therapist came in to see if he was ready to try and walk a lap or two and planned on assisting him if he needed it. Josh was able to make two laps around the hall without any assistance. What a blessing and miracle!!!!! He will continue to try and walk the halls today at least 2 or 3 more times. He is still groggy from the surgery and isn’t quite his upbeat self just yet. This is only because of the surgery and drugs because his words still remain positive and his contagious smile is still there as well.
He continues to talk about all the support and love he has received during this time. It’s simply amazing!!! He loved all the emails sent through me or Al Cantwell and has saved every single one of them. Please keep them coming as the doctor has said that Josh’s attitude and surrounding him with positive people and comments will make all the difference in the world during his recovery. Dr. Nanda made mention of how he doesn’t see this kind of support and love too many times when he performs surgery on people. LSUS can be very proud of themselves as so many people have reached out with an encouraging word. Hopefully Josh and I will be able to thank each one of you personally before it’s all over.
Anyway, I know I’m carrying on a little too much, but today is a day of rejoicing. The surgery is over and Josh is walking. Using “JP’s” words from yesterday’s KSLA interview in the hospital, “I’m on my way out of the storm!” I didn’t think I could love Josh more than I already did before this accident, but I do. He is an amazing young man with tremendous amount of character and a GREAT attitude. He was spared paralysis for a reason and I am certain Josh Porter will live his life with a purpose.
Thanks for all the emails, prayers, thoughts, cards, phone calls, and everything else. Please keep up the support and don't forget how much Josh will continue to need each one of you. This is probably not the last email you will receive about Josh or the last email that I will send thanking you for the support. I just wanted to send out a rejoicing email as the last 3 nights have been long ones and I just can’t get over the fact that Josh is up and walking.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me back today or anytime this weekend. Josh will be doing A LOT of resting today and the family has requested that visitors wait until Saturday before visiting. Please be considerate of their time if you do have a chance to go up there on Saturday as there have literally been hundreds of people in and out of the room. I will be up there the majority of the weekend if anyone wants to pass along an email or card encouraging Josh.
Thanks again for everything during this time!!!! LSUS as a whole has truly been revealed during this time.
