Oklahoma City Defeats LSUS in Extras

May 13, 2009

Oklahoma City, Okla. – Oklahoma City’s Jason Machado hit a two-run double in the top of the tenth and the Stars went on to score four more runs and take a 14-10 extra-inning victory over the LSUS Pilots on Wednesday afternoon in the NAIA Baseball Opening-Round Tournament at Jim Wade Stadium.

LSUS scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extras, but their comeback attempt came up just short, sending the Pilots into the elimination bracket of the tournament.

Quinton Shamsabady hit two home runs for the Pilots, including a three-run shot in the big fourth inning for the No. 2 seed.   Jeffrey Garidel homered to lead off the inning, as the Pilots scored six runs in the fourth to take an 8-2 lead.

However, the Stars scored eight unanswered runs of their own to go in front 10-8 heading into the Pilots’ half of the ninth inning.

OCU’s Brent Weaver hit two home runs to lead the Stars, moving him just one homer shy of the NAIA single season record.

Shamsabady finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs to pace the Pilots. Garidel, Brent Lavallee and Stephen Hobbins also had two hits apiece for LSUS.

With the win, the Stars advance to tomorrow’s championship game at 2:30 P.M. while the Pilots will play in an elimination game at 11:00 A.M.
