No. 9 Lady Chaps hand Lady Pilots first loss of season

Shreveport, LA---The No. 9 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps (1-0) entered The Dock Saturday afternoon to take on the LSUS Lady Pilots (2-1) for their 2006-2007 season opener. The Lady Pilots led 24-21 at the half, but a 63% shooting effort from the floor by the Lady Chaps in the second half led to a 61-49 victory.

The LSUS Lady Pilots trailed by as many as six points in the first half, but an 18-9 run had LSUS ahead 24-21 at the break.

The Lady Chaps forced nine turnovers and out rebounded LSUS 19-18, but managed to capitalize on just 7-of-21 field goal attempts which included 1-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Jordan Hampton collected six points and four rebounds while teammate Talita Aguiar pitched in with four points and five rebounds.

Kacie Cryer led the Lady Pilots with eight points and three rebounds while Quan Joseph and Chandra Allen added four points each.

The Lady Chaps jumped out to a 39-28 lead with 12:00 remaining in the second half before seeing their lead dwindle to five points after a 6-0 LSUS run.

After a Lady Chaps timeout, Sierra Wilcox drained a three-point attempt as time expired on the shot clock which proved to be the crushing blow to the Lady Pilots as they could never recover from the seven point deficit as they dropped their first decision of the year by a final score of 61-49.

Wilcox finished with a game high 15-points and six assists while teammate Kim Lloyd fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 13-points and nine rebounds. LCU finished shooting 49% (22-of-45) from the floor which included 5-of-14 from beyond the arc.

The Lady Pilots shooting woes continued from the outside as they finished 0-of-15 from beyond the three-point line and finished the contest shooting just 29% (19-of-64) from the floor.

Offensively for the Lady Pilots, Cryer finished with a team high 12-points and five rebounds; Kelly added 10-points; and Quan Joseph added 10-points and a team high eight rebounds.
