No. 6 Pilots Fall to Louisiana College

March 19, 2009
PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College baseball team took a 7-6 win over the NAIA sixth ranked LSUS Pilots Wednesday night, who defeated the number one Division II team in the country (Southern Arkansas) on Tuesday night.

Things started out shaky for LC (11-12) when Wildcat starter Scotty Jutze walked the bases loaded and gave up two runs on a single in the first inning to Chase Wentz.

In the second inning, Jutze loaded the bases again, but Dustin Tubre got LC out of the jam by striking out Brett Lavallee.

LC then tied the game at two on RBI singles by Andrew Shelton and Ryan Juneau.

LSUS (28-4) answered right back and took a 5-2 lead with three runs in the top of the fourth.

The game remained tied until LC scored a single run in on a sacrifice fly by David Roux. LSUS countered LC’s run with a run of their own in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, LC charged back and plated four runs to take a 7-6 lead. The first run came courtesy of a Jon Michael Kidd sacrifice fly. However, the big blow of the inning was when David Roux blasted LSUS reliever Mason Free’s first pitch over the left-centerfield wall for a three run home run.

Marcus Howell, who pitched the eighth, picked up the win for the Wildcats and Steven Jones picked up the save.

LSUS will return to the field on Saturday when they travel back to Alexandria to take on the LSUA Generals in a doubleheader.
