No. 22 Lady Pilots Defeat Tougaloo

January 23, 2009

JACKSON, Miss. – No. 22 LSUS improved to 15-1 and 5-0 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with a 53-48 win over Tougaloo College on Thursday night.

The Lady Pilots managed to pick up their 13th straight victory despite putting forth one of the worst outings of the year.  LSUS trailed by two points at the break and had to stave off a last second three-point attempt by Tougaloo’s Stephanie Jackson to maintain their hold on the top spot of the GCAC standings.

Tish Flowers came up huge for the Lady Pilots on the offensive end, as LSUS’ two leading scorers combined to go just 4-for-17 from the field.  Flowers poured in a game-high 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, while also connecting on 8-of-10 free throws.

LSUS outrebounded the home team 34-33 for the game, while also limiting the Lady Bulldogs to just 31% shooting for the contest.

LSUS (15-1, 5-0) will next face Southern University-New Orleans on Saturday night in New Orleans.
