No. 19 William Carey Shuts Out LSUS
October 04, 2008
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The LSUS Lady Pilots saw their four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, as No. 19 William Carey knocked off the Lady Pilots, 3-0, at the WCU Soccer Complex.
Shannon Steffen opened the scoring in the 10th minute as she headed home a well executed corner kick from Natalia Nino, giving William Carey an early 1-0 lead. Steffen then notched her second goal just 11 minutes later, as she beat the LSUS keeper in a one-on-one situation.
Carey could have easily blown things wide open in the first half, but LSUS goalie Amber Salvucci recorded five first-half saves to keep the Lady Pilots in the contest.
However, the Lady Pilots were unable to get anything going offensively in the second half, and Lady Crusaders capitalized on a penalty kick midway through the second half for the game's final goal.
LSUS (6-3, 1-1) will return home next Thursday when they face Mobile in their GCAC home opener. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m at The Swamp.
