No. 19 Pilots Keep Rolling
January 23, 2009
Jackson, Miss. – The LSUS men’s basketball team remained unbeaten in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play on Thursday night, defeating Tougaloo College 71-65 at Kroger Gymnasium.
The Pilots (12-5, 5-0) trailed by as many as 11 points midway through the second half, but fought their way back and finished the game on a 23-6 run over the final eight minutes to pick up a huge road win.
LSUS took a 41-38 lead on a John Anthony Anglin three-pointer at the 15 minute mark, but the Bulldogs responded with a 15-1 run of their own over the next five minutes and seemingly had the game in hand before the Pilots made their final run.
Senior Chris Gatlin scored 19 points in the contest, including going 5-for-8 from the three-point line. Tyrone Hamilton added 13 points for the victors, while Jared Stevenson finished with 11.
Although the Pilots came into tonight’s game shooting over 72% as a team from the charity stripe this season, they struggled mightily from the free throw line on Thursday. LSUS shot just 55% from the line in the game, but they finished the contest with 10 more makes than the Bulldogs.
LSUS now travels to New Orleans to face the SUNO Knights on Saturday night. Tip off for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live over the internet by visiting the LSUS Athletics website five minutes prior to the start.
