LSUS Gold jumped out early on the Blue Team and held on for a 6-4 win, evening the Pilot World Series at one game apiece. Daniel Welch, Matt Clayman, and Chris Marks combined on the mound to hold Pilot Blue in check. Pilot Gold banged out 12 hits with sophomore Brian Arnold pacing the Gold attack with 4 hits. Tyler Williams led Pilot Blue with three RBI’s.

The LSUS Pilots kicked off the 7th annual Pilot World Series yesterday under cloudy, windy conditions at Pilot field. The Blue team took game one of the best of five series with a convincing 9-4 win over the Gold Team. Tyler Lewis threw five strong innings, surrendering two runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking three for Pilot Blue. Blake Pinkston and Josh Wheat finished the game throwing an inning each.

Shreveport, LA---Men’s basketball is returning for its junior year at LSUS with new expectations, new goals, and a roster full of new faces. The Pilots 2005 journey ended with a loss in the round of Sweet 16 at the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, MO, and a final regular season ranking of #7 in the nation. The season’s last game also brought to an end the college careers of five outstanding young men and extremely talented athletes in the likes of Derrick Hill, Justin Collins, Abraham Saxon, David Walker, and Derrick Rogers. “Those 5 guys will be remembered forever here at LSUS.” Commented head coach Chad McDowell just days after returning from the NAIA national tournament. “They will always be family and will be given credit for helping build our program in such a short amount of time. Replacing these guys will be tough. They are more than just great players; they are great young men and fierce competitors.”
 
Sports stumble in 11th against Senators (6/4/2005)
In the second start of his professional career, Dereck Cunningham looked as if he had been a pro for years. Cunningham, a former LSUS star, had a no-hitter against Jackson through 6 1-3 innings on Friday. Though Carlos Brackley spoiled his shot with a single in the seventh, he did his job by giving the Sports a shot at the win.
 
LSUS lands transfer in Josh Porter (5/25/2005)
Former Southwood High standout Josh Porter will play basketball at LSUS next season after transferring from Stephen F. Ausin. LSU-Shreveport's men's basketball recruiting class picked up its third transfer when former Southwood High School star Josh Porter announced a decision to leave Stephen F. Austin for LSUS.

Pilots head to GCAC Tournament with #1 seed (5/2/2005)
Shreveport, LA - The 2005 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, set for May 4-7 in Jackson, Mississippi, bracket has been set. All games will be played at Millsaps College, beginning with Game 1 at 11:00 am on Wednesday. Game times on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be 11:00 am, 2:30 pm and 6:00 pm. Saturday's championship game(s) will begin at 12:00 pm.
 
Pilots edge Loyola in second game for doubleheader split. (5/1/2005)
The LSU-Shreveport Pilots' offense fluctuated as much as the weather did on Saturday against the Loyola Wolfpack. In game one of the doubleheader, the weather was gloomy and so was the LSUS offense as the Pilots lost in extra innings, 4-3. However, in the second game of the day, the sun was shining bright and so were the faces in the Pilot dugout due to their 7-6 win.

Shreveport, LA---It was a pitching dual all the way on Friday night for the LSUS Pilots against the Loyola Wildcats. However, the Pilots’ James Thomas came out on top with the win, 2-1, and Kevin Jewell (4) picked up the save completing a scoreless ninth inning.

The LSU-Shreveport Pilots' restocking of their men's basketball roster continues with the addition of Louisiana Tech transfer Jeremy Johnston. Johnston is the Pilots' second high-profile transfer this month. Earlier this month, former Tulsa guard Kyle Blankenship announced a decision to transfer to LSUS for his senior season. Johnston will also play his senior season for the Pilots. Both are former All-City players.

Former Byrd High School basketball standout Kyle Blankenship announced a decision Tuesday to transfer from Tulsa to LSU-Shreveport. (4/20/2005)
Blankenship, a 6-foot guard, has one year of eligibility remaining. He will be eligible immediately and play for his former high school coach, Chad McDowell. The Pilots were 27-9 last season and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

Pilots Baseball continues athletic success at LSUS with 2005 GCAC Championship (4/18/2005)
Shreveport, LA---After a disappointing 3-1 loss in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship final versus the Belhaven College Blazers in 2004, the #12 LSUS Pilots were chomping at the bit to erase the bitter memories of what could have been. With the additions of senior transfer from Arkansas State University Derek Cunningham, Bossier Parish Community College’s Dusty Maddox, the emergence of the GCAC’s leading hitter Dustin Bissonnette, and the return of 6’4 left handed pitcher Frank Kowatz a year after surgery who has compiled a 6-1 record thus far, the Pilots have accumulated a 36-10 record and have clinched their first ever GCAC Championship with six games remaining in the regular season schedule.

SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSUS Pilots had a job to do on Saturday and they did it well. Coming into Saturday’s double header against the University of Mobile Rams, the Pilots had to win the remaining two games of the three game series so they could clinch the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference outright after winning game one of the series 8-6 Friday night. They did their job just the way they should have by winning Saturday’s first game 7-3 behind a solid pitching performance by Derek Cunningham, and picking up an 11-1 victory in five innings to complete the sweep, and wrap up the 2005 GCAC regular season title.

SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSUS Pilots must have wanted to win the hard way Wednesday night against Southern Arkansas University. If not that, they certainly wanted to win it dramatically. After giving up eight runs on three hits, three walks and two hit by pitches, the Pilots lost their 8-2 lead to the Muleriders in the seventh inning. But the Pilots, who have done an excellent job of rallying this season, scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the victory, 12-10.

Pilots sweep double-header versus Paul Quinn; 10-6, 4-1 (4/13/2005)
SHREVEPORT, La. – It was LSUS’ Kyle Mace’s on fire bat who helped the Pilots win the first of two games in a double-header against the Paul Quinn Tigers, 10-6. In the second game of the non-conference event, good pitching from Marcus Calhoun and strong offensive innings from the LSUS squad gave the home team a 4-1 win to complete a sweep of the series.
 
Bissonnette Earns GCAC Player of the Week Honors (4/12/2005)
Dustin Bissonnette of LSUS was chosen player of the week. Bissonnette hit .533 for the week with 5 runs scored, 3 doubles and 4 RBI. Bissonnette continues to improve upon an already impressive season. After an 8-15 performance this week, he has improved his batting average to .449 with a team leading 138 at bats, which also includes a .512 on base percentange and 38 RBI. During his current 7 game hitting streak, Bissonnette is 12-25;he has only been held hitless in 5 of the 39 games he has played this year. Dustin is a junior from Prince George, BC.

Shreveport, LA– The LSUS Pilots could not have asked for better pitching in the first game of Saturday’s double header or for better rallying skills in the second game against the Springhill Badgers, as they won both games and swept the series.

Shreveport, LA– It was Pilots all the way on Friday night against the Springhill Badgers as LSUS’ offense exploded for a 10-4 win. The Pilots, now 28-10 overall and 15-4 in conference play, had an excellent offensive showing as well as good pitching efforts to keep them in first place in their conference.

Junior Fredericko Payne was recently named NAIA First Team All-American. Payne, from Dubach, Louisiana, continues to add to his awards for the great year the Pilots had. All ready the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year and All-Conference, he adds All-American to an impressive list of accomplishments.

Pineville, LA---The LSUS Pilots (27-10) squared off against the Louisiana College Wildcats (20-7) Tuesday afternoon in the fourth annual D.A.R.E. Day Baseball Game. In front of 2,500 screaming 4th and 5th graders, the Pilots collected 16 hits on route to a 9-8 victory over the Wildcats.

Frank Kowatz pitched a career high 8.2 innings allowing 1 run (unearned) while scattering 6 Blazers hits and 2 walks to improve to 4-1 on the season as the Pilots went on to win by a final score of 2-1.

SHREVEPORT, LA. – In a non-conference double-header match-up, the LSUS Pilots battled the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Tuesday. After winning in dramatic, extra inning style in game one, the Pilots fell hard in game two to the visiting Bears.

Cedar Hills, TX---Pilots starter Frank Kowatz (3-1) fell victim to some sloppy Pilot defense who surrendered four unearned runs in the bottom of the first which set the tone for the remainder of the ball game as the Northwood University Knights went on to hand the Pilots their largest loss of the year by a final score of 26-8.
 
Pilots return to top 15 in NAIA with 23-7 start (3/24/2005)
Shreveport, LA---The NAIA released its first top 25 rankings of the 2005 season Thursday afternoon. The LSUS Pilots have found themselves ranked 14th in the country and back in the top 15 for the first time since the pre-season polls in 2004. LSUS has accumulated a 23-7 record through the first half of their season and are currently in top spot in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference at 12-3; two games ahead of the 10-5 University of Mobile Rams.

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots and William Carey Crusaders locked horns in a double-header Saturday afternoon at Pilot Field. The Crusaders held off a 7th inning Pilot rally and escaped with an 8-6 win in game one, but fell victim to a nine run outburst in the bottom of the third inning in game two which led the Pilots to a 13-11 victory in game two.

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots entered Friday night’s game versus the William Carey College (12-8, 5-5GCAC) Crusaders in first place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference at 8-1, one game ahead of the University of Mobile Rams. The Pilots however saw their four game win streak end Friday night at the hands of the Crusaders who exploded for 16 hits and 15 runs to hand the Pilots their second loss at home this season by a final score of 15-3.

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots (18-3) played host to the Northwood University Knights (12-14) in double-header action Tuesday afternoon at Pilot Field. Frank Kowatz faced only 20 Northwood batters in his 6.0 innings of work while allowing only one run on four hits, leading the Pilots to a 7-2 victory over the Knights. The Pilots used 10 stolen bases and a complete game performance from starter Tyler Lewis to take game two from the Knights 7-3, improving their regular season record to 18-3.
 
Pilots survive 68-67 thriller versus Tougaloo to advance to GCAC semi-final (3/3/2005)
New Orleans, LA-Just when one would think that it wasn’t meant for the LSUS Pilots to win their first round game of the GCAC tournament against Tougaloo College, Justin Collins pushed the basketball up the floor with 7 seconds left and dished off to Travis Cash sprinting down the left side of the floor for the winning lay-up with 1.5 seconds remaining. After a desperation shot from Tougaloo that never reached the goal, LSUS limped off the floor with an old tournament motto: “survive and advance.” The Pilots literally were slow to get off the floor as they experienced something on this night that hasn’t happened to them before.
 
Coston leads Lady Rams over Lady Pilots with 30 point performance (3/2/2005)
Mobile, AL---The #7 LSUS Lady Pilots 200-2005 season came to end Wednesday morning with a 73-62 loss at the hands of the #2 University of Mobile Lady Rams in round two of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The Lady Pilots took a 33-29 lead into the locker room at halftime, but Crystal Coston’s 30 point performance, 19 of which came in the second half proved to be too much for the Lady Pilots.

HATTIESBURG, Miss – The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference today announced the players of the week for the week of February 21 - 27, 2005. Fredericko Payne of LSUS was selected as the men's player of the week for the 4th time this season. Payne averaged 22.5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in leading the Pilots to victories over Dillard and William Carey. He recorded 29 points in the victory over the Crusaders which gave LSUS a share of the regular season conference title and the number 1 seed in the conference tournament. Fredericko is a 5-10 junior guard from Dubach, LA.

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots erupted for 29 runs versus the NCAA Division III LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets last week but found themselves holding on to a 4-3 ball game heading into the bottom of the eighth versus the Yellow Jackets Tuesday night at Pilot Field. Chris Frye provided the knock-out punch when he belted a first pitch fastball over the left field wall to give the Pilots a 9-3 lead, and their 14th win of the season.
 
Lady Pilots advance to round two of GCAC Tournament with 57-52 win over Tougaloo (3/1/2005)
New Orleans, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots (13-19) squared of against the Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs (9-20) Tuesday afternoon at Dillard University in New Orleans to open up the first round of play in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The #7 Lady Pilots hung on to defeat the #10 Lady Bulldogs 57-52 for their first ever post-season victory. Saige Cooper led the Lady Pilots with 13 points which included a 4-9 shooting performance from beyond the three-point line. Kendera Monette pitched in with 10 points, while Marcia Spyhalski collected a game high 10 rebounds and 8 points in the victory to advance the Lady Pilots to round two of the GCAC Tournament.

Pilots improve to 4-0 in GCAC with 9-7 win over Badgers (2/25/2005)
Mobile, AL---The LSUS Pilots (11-2, 4-0 GCAC) took on the Spring Hill College Badgers of Mobile, AL in the first game of a three game Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series Friday night. The Pilots led 5-0 early, but a 5 run bottom of the seventh tied the score at 5-5. The Pilots answered with 3 runs in the top of the 8th inning, and 1 run in the 9th, and held off a Badger rally in the bottom half of the 9th to pull out a 9-7 victory, and improve to 4-0 in GCAC action.

HATTIESBURG, Miss – The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference today announced the baseball pitcher of the week for the week of February 14 - 20, 2005. Derek Cunningham of LSUS is the pitcher of the week. Cunningham was the winning pitcher in the Pilot's 3-0 GCAC victory over Belhaven College. He pitched six innings, allowing one hit, no runs, struck out five and walked two. The only hit was an infield single in the first inning. Cunningham is now 1-0 on the year with 1 save in 8.1 innings pitched. He has held his opponents to a .107 batting average while collecting 8 strikeouts and surrendering only 3 walks. Derek is a senior from Senath, MO.

Longview, TX---The LSUS Pilots (10-2) traveled to Longview, TX Tuesday afternoon to take on the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets (3-1). The Pilots exploded for 27 hits in the 29-15 win over the Yellow Jackets.
 
Pilots complete sweep over Blazers with 13-3 win (2/19/2005)
Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots (9-2) and the Belhaven College Blazers (6-5) squared off in a three game series this weekend at Pilot Field to begin the 2005 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference season. In 2004 it was the Blazers who knocked off the Pilots in the GCAC Conference Tournament Championship Game, to denying the Pilots of their chance to defend their region XIV championship title. This weekend however was a different story as the Pilots combined two excellent pitching performances and some timely hitting Friday night to take games one and two, and exploded for 13 runs and 20 hits Saturday afternoon, taking game three by a final score of 13-3, to sweep the three game series.
 
LSUS men grab wild win over Tougaloo (2/18/2005)
It was wild and wooly at The Dock Thursday night -- but the LSUS Pilots stayed the course and steered their way to a 94-86 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory over Tougaloo College.
