Muleriders sink Pilots 12-0
February 17, 2004
LSUS (3-2) travelled to Magnolia, AK Monday afternoon to take on the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (2-2). The Muleriders are an NCAA Division II school in the Gulf South Conference. The Muleriders got the best of the Pilots on this day as they collected their second win of the year by a score of 12-0.
Returning sophomore Tyler Lewis took the hill for the Pilots and looked good early throwing two scoreless innings. The Pilots failed to score in the top of the third after Patrick Jolley doubled to lead off the inning. In the bottom of the frame the Muleriders took advantage of their scoring opportunities and put 5 runs on the board.
The Pilots had a chance to answer in the top of the fourth when they loaded the bases with no outs. Mulerider pitcher Bobby Beeson then struckout Pilot Cody Samford for the first out of the inning, then managed to get a fly ball which failed to score the runner from third, and then escaped the bases loaded jam with his second strikeout of the inning.
The Muleriders then tacked on 3 more in the fourth, and 4 in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Bobby Beeson was the winning pitcher and improved his record to 1-1 on the year. Tyler Lewis suffered his first loss while giving up 7 earned runs on 5 hits 4 walks.
The Pilots will be in action again Thursday night at Pilot Field beginning at 7:00pm when they will take on LeTourneau University.
