Morris powers Pilots over Tigers

Shreveport, LA---LSUS Pilots forward Jamon Morris connected on 11-of-16 field goal attempts en route to a 24 point night while collecting a game high 15 rebounds leading the Pilots to a 94-81 over the Paul Quinn College Tigers Friday night at The Dock.

The Pilots led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but a late 12-4 Tiger run which was highlighted by an Amahd Jennings three-pointer at the buzzer cut the Pilots lead to 42-39 at the break.

LSUS stretched their lead back to as many as six points early in the second half, but could not hold off the Tigers who mounted a 12-5 capped by a Jackie Ransom field goal at the 11:35 mark which gave the Tigers a 61-59 lead.

LSUS forwards Blake Whittle and Morris however would combine for the Pilots next 15 points which rallied the Pilots to a 74-66 lead with 5:23 remaining in the contest.

LSUS would connect on 19-of-23 free-throws throughout the second half which proved to be the difference down the stretch as they went on to win by a final score of 94-81 to improve to 9-1 on the season.

Morris posted a season high in both points and rebounds with his 24 and 11, while Whittle added a game high 25 points and collected 11 rebounds. Freddy Hughes made a living from the free-throw line in the second half connecting on 9-of-9 attempts and finished with 17 points and five assists. Kyile Byrd added eight points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals while Greg Tyer rounded off the Pilots offense with six points, seven rebounds, and a game high three blocks.

The Pilots shot a season low 1-of-11 (.091%) from beyond the three-point line, however finished a season high 23-of-27 (85%) from the free-throw line in the victory.

LSUS will now await the New Year as they will remain idle until January 4th, 2007 when they will play host to conference rival Spring Hill College in their Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
