Men's Soccer: Pilots season comes to an end with loss in semis
November 10, 2012
FORT WORTH, Tex. - The Texas Wesleyan Rams netted a pair of early goals to control Friday's Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Semi-Final Match downing the LSU Shreveport Pilots by a final score of 3-0. The win not only puts the Rams in the RRAC Finals tomorrow but they earn a berth in the NAIA National Tournament. The loss for the Pilots eliminates then from the RRAC Tournament and puts an end to their record-setting season.
TWU (9-6-2) dominated from start to finish pounding the Pilots in the shot category 24-3 as the Pilots struggled to put together anything offensively in the contest. The Rams' got early goals from Ivan Kovacevic and Mari Jonjic to take a 2-0 lead 15 minutes into the contest. The home team added another insurance goal during the 80th minute from TJ Romaguera.
Although the Pilots did not bring the hardware back to Shreveport this year they still had the best season in school history. In just their fourth season the Pilots finished with an overall record of 13-6-1, their best ever and for the second time in school history the Pilots won a playoff game beating defending champion Huston-Tillotson 1-0 last week at The Swamp.
LSUS took only three shots in the contest: one from William Awagu, one from Ayinde Fraser and the other by Juan Gutierrez-Rojas. Lance Quini played well making five saves in the final game of the season. The future is bright for the Pilots as they look to return to the Tournament and hopefully go further since they will only be missing two seniors from today's starting lineup.
