Men's Basketball: Pilots snatch big road win over Wiley

February 02, 2013

MARSHALL, Tex. - The no. 24 LSU Shreveport Pilots men's basketball team picked up a huge win on the road taking down the Wiley Wildcats 91-81 on Saturday afternoon in Red River Athletic Conference play. The LSUS bench outscored Wiley's 53-3.

The Pilots (16-4, 11-3) took control of the contest with a late surge in the first half to take a one-point lead into the locker room at the half 41-40. The Pilots dominated the second half with 51-percent shooting as they nailed seven from beyond the arc.

Wiley (12-10, 6-8) was not able to get good looks at the basket as the Pilots defense held the home squad to just 36-percent shooting for the contest despite Carlos Gary leading all scorers with 31 points for the Wildcats while Anthony Jackson had 28 points and Victor Leak had a dozen.

The dominating bench for the Pilots was led by Rodney Milum with 28 points including draining six three's and Tevin Hall with 22 as they were two of the only three that came in off the bench for the Pilots. Three starters knocked down double figures with Brandon Davis having an off-night with 11 points in 22 minutes and Mark Politte tossing in 11 as well while Aaron Jones had 10.

The Pilots will now prepare for their next big game, a Thursday, Feb. 7th, meeting with Texas College (17-6, 11-5 RRAC) at The Dock at 7:30 p.m. The Pilots have now won five games in a row and are currently two games behind the SAGU Lions for the top spot in the regular season standings.
