November 01, 2013
LSUS will host USAO Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
SHREVEPORT, La. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' (NAIA) #2 LSU Shreveport Pilots will begin their 2013-14 campaign tonight at The Gym in Humble, Texas, as they take on St. Gregory's College at 6:00 p.m. in the "Small College Tip Off Classic." Pilot fans will not have to wait too long for the home opener as the Pilots return to Shreveport to meet The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. in what should be a packed house at The Dock.
Saturday will feature a double-header with the first game beginning at 5:00 p.m. matching a pair of American Basketball Association teams in an exhibition game between the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks and the Dallas Diesel. Fans can purchase two-for-one tickets at the door for the low price of $10.
Coach Kyle Blankenship's Pilots will be tested early in the season since they will have played nine games by December 13, three of which will be against NAIA teams ranked in the top five of the preseason poll as well as one exhibition contest against an NCAA DII opponent, Tarleton State. LSUS will take on #5 Southwestern Assemblies of God University twice in the early portion of the schedule with the first game on the road on November 12 at 7:00 p.m. and the second meeting at The Dock on November 25, also at 7:00 p.m.
Another highly anticipated matchup early in the Pilots' schedule will be a meeting versus the team with whom they are tied with at #2 in the NAIA preseason poll, Oklahoma Baptist University, as they meet the Bison on November 29 in Fort Worth at 5:30 p.m. as a part of Texas Wesleyan's Clifford Classic.
The Pilots' schedule will not get any easier as the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) schedule begins with the always highly anticipated matchup with NAIA preseason #24, Our Lady of the Lake University, at The Dock on January 25, at 7:30 p.m. and as the last game of the regular season in San Antonio at 7:30 p.m. on March 1st.
St. Thomas University is always a tough RRAC opponent as well as they come in receiving votes in the top 25. LSUS hosts the Celts at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th and the Pilots will travel to St. Thomas on February 7th for a 7:30 p.m. match-up.
The Pilots will open the RRAC schedule on the road at Southwest on December 7th.
