McGill leads Crusaders to 75-58 win over Lady Pilots

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots managed to stay within five points in the first half against the William Carey College Crusaders who connected on 6-of-12 three-point attempts which led to a 37-32 lead. The Crusaders continued their hot shooting in the second half connecting on 11-of-21 attempts from the floor en route to a 75-58 victory over the Lady Pilots.

Amanda McGill led the Crusaders with a sensational 9-of-11 shooting performance from the floor which included 6-of-8 from beyond the three-point line. She also added a game high eight rebounds along with two steals and two assists.

“When she gets going she is tough to stop. Amanda has been solid for us all year and has been a big factor in our recent success,” commented Crusaders Head Coach Tracey English who’s Crusaders have won eight of their last nine games and have improved to 9-6 on the year and 5-1 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.

Nikki Smith finished with 12 points and teammate Randy Cypien added 11 to round of the Crusaders scoring. WCC out rebounded the Lady Pilots 36-31.

For the Lady Pilots it was Jessica Kelly and Moche Roque each scoring 14 points while teammate Janai Sells added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Marcia Spyhalski finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds to round off the Lady Pilots scoring.

“We didn’t shoot the ball real well and it seemed as though they connected on every open shot they had. They are a very well coached team,” commented Lady Pilots Head Coach Ronnie Howell.

The Lady Pilots finished shooting 38% (22-of-58) from the field which included 5-of-11 from the three-point line.

LSUS dropped to 10-7 overall and 2-4 in the GCAC and are amidst their first three-game losing streak of the season.

The Lady Pilots will return to action Monday night when they travel to Jackson, MS to take on the Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs who they defeated 71-57 January 16th at The Dock.
