McDowell, Payne receive Louisiana Coaches' awards
April 29, 2004
LSUS Men's Basketball Coach Chad McDowell, who led the Pilots to a 21 - 12 record in their first year of competition, has been selected as Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches Small College Coach of the Year.
This award is voted on by the college coaches throughout the state. McDowell, who has already been named the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, will be recognized Saturday at the annual LABC banquet held in Baton Rouge.
LSUS' shooting guard Fredericko Payne, a GCAC first team All-Conference selection and Newcomer of the Year, has been selected as the LABC Small College Co-Player of the Year. He will share this honor with SUNO's Roberto Ferriar. Payne finished the season as the leading scorer in the GCAC averaging 21.8 points per game, a mark that was good enough to rank him eighth in the nation.
