Maddox earns back-to-back 1st-Team All-Region honors
May 09, 2006
Shreveport, LA---Dusty Maddox, a 6’2 senior from Bossier City, LA led the LSUS Pilots to a 2005 Region XIII Championship Game while earning 1st-Team All-Region honors along the way after belting 11 homeruns and a team high 65 RBI. In 2006, Maddox has collected 10 homeruns and 55 RBI, and has his Pilots back in the Region XIII title hunt, and has claimed 1st-Team All-Region honors for the second consecutive season.
Though the fleet footed center fielder has compiled a two year career at LSUS that no other can compare to statistically, the Bossier Parish Community College transfer has his hopes set on awards that mean much more than his own.
“Stats show numbers and percentages, but championships are what every player wants. Last year we fell short of our goal after losing to Lee University in the Region XIII finals which has been on our minds all season long. Now we get a shot at redemption in the first round which has been our goal all season,” commented Maddox.
Maddox’s offensive production sparked a four game win streak resulting in the Pilots first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, however he believes it has been the teams ability to come together and combine all aspects of the game together that has made what he believes is a Region XIII Tournament contender.
“Our pitching has done an outstanding job of attacking hitters which keeps our defense on its toes, and our lineup has learned to trust in each other and we all know that one person cannot win a ball game; it has to be a combined effort. If we continue to do the little things right like we have throughout the past three weeks, we are going to be a tough team to beat,” concluded Maddox.
Thirteen of the 17 All-Region players came from the Southern States Athletic Conference, while Maddox was one of four players selected from the GCAC. Thomas Royals (Belhaven College) was selected as an infielder, Maddox and Greg Alexander (William Carey College) were selected as outfielders, while Brad Fultz (Belhaven College) grabbed one of the four pitcher’s slots.
LSUS will square off against Lee University in Round 1 action Wednesday at 12:00pm. All the action can be heard live with Mark Cantrell at www.lsus.edu/baseball/
