LSUS WOMEN'S SOCCER GREAT START RAINED OUT
September 13, 2009
Hattiesburg, MS-The LSUS women’s soccer team faced Bethel College (TN) on Sunday afternoon at William Carey University but had a great start washed away as heavy thunderstorms canceled the game after 7 minutes of play.
The Lady Pilots got off to a hot start as they scored just 15 seconds into the game. Caitlin Smith scored after Rachael Knight got by the Bethel defender and crossed the ball to Smith. Had this goal been in an official game, it would have been the quickest goal scored in LSUS soccer history.
Smith scored her second goal of the game two minutes later to put LSUS up by a score of 2-0. But then Mother Nature took over and started the weather delay at 1:40 p.m. After a 1 hour and 30 minute delay the game was called due to the wet field and more rain on the way.
Head Coach, Jed Jones, “That was an amazing start; you could not have scripted it any better. I hate that the weather got in the way, but those things happen. At this time in the season, with conference play around the corner, you do not want to put your team on a wet field like that and risk any injuries.”
The next game for the LSUS Lady Pilots will be on Friday, September 18th, at 4 p.m. at the Swamp against Southern University of Baton Rouge.
