LSUS WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS SOUTHERN OF BATON ROUGE
September 18, 2009
Shreveport, LA- The LSUS women’s soccer team (4-1-1) defeated the Southern Lady Jaguars (0-7) on Friday night at LSUS, 2-0.
The Lady Pilots got on the board first when a foul from the Southern keeper allowed Rachael Knight a penalty kick. Knight’s shot deflected off the keeper’s glove and found its way to the back of the net as LSUS took the lead 1-0 at 6 minutes and 10 seconds into the game.
At the break, the Lady Pilots led by a score of 1-0 as they took a total of 7 shots in the first period as opposed to SU’s 3.
The second half brought another goal for the Lady Pilots as Shelley Davenport passed the ball to Brooke Martin. Martin then hit an amazing shot that made it over SU’s keeper and into the top right corner of the goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
Most of the second half was played as light to heavy showers pounded the playing surface. This game was moved to the LSUS practice field as the Swamp was too wet for safe play.
