LSUS splits double header with Spring Hill

February 21, 2004

In game one the Pilots faced Danny Pedron (1-1) of the Spring Hill College Badgers in game two of the three game series. Pedron got the best of the Pilots offense as he limited them to only one run on 6 hits in 7 innings of work. The lone Pilot run came on a solo blast by Pilot senior Thomas McManis. Sam Alphonse (1-1) suffered his first loss of the year while only giving up 6 hits and one earned run.

In game two of the double-header, Thomas McManis continued to dominate the Badgers pitching staff as he launched two solo-homers, including a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the seventh to give the Pilots a 7-6 victory. McManis finished 2-4 with 2 RBI’s and now has 4 homeruns on the season. Pilot freshman Jordie Bias finished the game 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Cody Samford added a triple in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. Samford later doubled in the sixth which helped cap a 2 run Pilot 6th inning. The Pilots took a 6-4 lead into the top of the seventh but saw the lead evaporate after Spring Hill mounted a 2 run comeback to tie the game. McManis then drove a 1-2 change-up over the right-center field wall to end the Badgers hope of a comeback. Pilot pitcher David Alexander picked up the win pitching 2 and 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run.

LSUS (6-3, 2-1 GCAC) will be in action again Tuesday when they travel to Dallas, TX to take on Texas Weslyn University. The Pilots will be at home again Wednesday night in double-header action versus Paul Quinn University.
