LSUS' Smith claims NAIA, RRAC, & LSWA POW honors

WACO, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport Pilot's first baseman Kevin Smith had a monster week at the plate leading the Pilots to a perfect 4-0 record for the week of March 7-12 as he claimed Player of the Week honors in the NAIA, Red River Athletic Conference, and for the state of Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Smith, a senior first baseman from Tacoma, Wash., drove in 14 runs in a 4-0 week for the Pilots that included a victory over the nation's top-ranked team, Cumberland University (Tenn.). He went 3-for-5 at the plate including a pair of home runs and five RBIs as LSUS won at home, 9-4. Smith was just as impressive in a three-game sweep of Texas College with four hits in the opening game and six RBIs in the second as the Pilots rolled to a 16-9 win. For the week, he was 11-for-15 hitting (.733) with a double, triple, three walks and two homers. LSUS is 12-0 in conference play and 19-7 on the season.
The next game for the Pilots will be on Tuesday, March 15, as they battle the LSU Alexandria Generals in a double header at Pilot Field at 4:00 p.m.
