LSUS season ended by Northwood

SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots soccer team's season came to a close after a 4-1 loss to the Northwood Knights in the first round of the RRAC Tournament at The Swamp.

Northwood (5-12-1) wasted no time taking command of the game with a goal 41 seconds into the contest by Audrey Gatlin which was assisted by Natalie Carter. Carter later connected for the second goal of the game in the 20th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Nine minutes later Gatlin added her second goal of the game for a 3-0 advantage.

The bright spot of the game for the Lady Pilots (7-7-2) came during the 35th minute when Kim Phelps attempted a cross but the pass found its way over the keeper's head to rattle the back of the net and bring the home team within two by halftime. Phelps finished the season with four goals and scored the final goal of the season for the Lady Pilots.

Northwood added one more goal during the 63rd minute as Carter connected on a penalty kick after the Lady Pilots were called for a hand ball inside the 18-yard box.

The Knights outshot LSUS 16-10 with eight finding its way on frame while the Lady Pilots had six shots on goal.

The loss ends the Lady Pilots season as they finish at the 500 mark with a 7-7-2 overall record. The win sends a 5-12-1 Northwood team to the semi-finals of the RRAC Tournament next Friday against either Our Lady of the Lake or UT-Brownsville depending upon the outcome of the Bacone/Texas Wesleyan matchup.
