LSUS MEN'S SOCCER RUNS OUT OF TIME AGAINST MOBILE
October 11, 2009
Shreveport, LA-The LSUS men’s soccer team came up short against the University of Mobile, after a four goal rally in the second half, by a final score of 5-4.
Mobile started the game off with all five of their goals coming during the first half of play. The first goal was scored at the 6th minute by Cedric Carrie, his second goal of the season.
Then at the 9th minute Onesimus Ikungo found the back of the net with his 3rd goal this season to give Mobile a 2-0 lead. The Rams continued to add pressure on the Pilot’s defense as Henrique Bertoli scored two goals, one at the 12th minute and then again at the 42nd minute. Bertoli’s 1st and 2nd goals of the season extended the Mobile lead to 4-0 with under a minute to play in the first half.
At the 44th minute Mobile’s Cedric Carrie (3rd of the season) scored his second goal of the game and appeared to put the game out of reach for LSUS.
Determined not go quietly, the Pilots scored at the 48th minute of the game as Marcos Carrillo (3rd) scored as he received an assist from Zach Kelly, his second assist of the season. This cut the Mobile lead to 5-1.
Carrillo again found the back of the net at the 51st minute with William Awagu credited with his 2nd assist of the season. This goal trimmed the Ram advantage to 5-2, giving the Pilots some hope in the second half.
LSUS capitalized on the momentum and trimmed the lead to 5-3, as Zach Kelly scored on a penalty kick. This was Kelly’s 4th goal of the year.
Second half sub, Brian Penner brought the Pilots within a goal as he delivered with his second goal of the year, but the Pilots ran out of time as Mobile escaped with a 5-4 victory.
Head Coach, Jed Jones, “Man, what a game! The first half sure didn’t turn out the way we hoped it would. I am very proud of our team. They could have laid down and given up as many goals as they did the first half, but they decided to fight and made quit a game out it. We just ran out of time.”
The next game for Mobile will be on Monday, October 12th, in Cedar Hill, Texas against Northwood University.
The Pilots will continue GCAC play with a match against the Belhaven College Blazers on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Jackson, Mississippi. Belhaven currently has an overall record of 6-3-2 and 0-1 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Blazers only conference game was a defeat at the hands of William Carey University, 1-0. The kickoff for Tuesday’s game is set for 3:30 p.m.
