LSUS' McDowell Named 2004 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year

Chad McDowell, who guided LSUS to a 20-11 regular season record in his first year at the helm, has been named the leagues 2004 Coach of the Year. The award, announced Wednesday, was voted on by the nine other coaches in the conference. The Pilots, who recieved the No. 4 seed and a 1st round bye in the GCAC Tournament, are 21-11 overall this season and had a 12-6 conference record. The 21 wins are a new school record. Also, the Pilots were 12-1 at home, which is a new record and the best mark in the conference. McDowell, who spent the last two years at Southwood High School, in Shreveport, Louisiana, becomes the 1st LSUS basketball coach to recieve the award from the GCAC.
