LSUS' Lifters Win Title at Weightlifting National Championships

LSU Shreveport continued its domination of college weightlifting last weekend at the 2010 USA Weightlifting National Collegiate Championships in Marquette, Mich. For the second year in a row, LSUS won the men's, women's and coed team championships. It was the fourth consecutive national title for the men and third consecutive for the coed team.

Hilary Katzenmaier, a junior from Abilene, Kan., won the 58 kg category and the Best Lifter Award in the Women's Division. Other gold medalists included Sean Hutchinson, a junior from Palatka, Fla., in the 62 kg category; Mike Soha, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla., in the 77 kg category; and Megan Kranz, a junior from Oviedo, Fla., in the 63 kg category. It was the second collegiate win for Hutchinson and Soha and the third for Kranz.

Other medalists in the Women's Division were Samantha Turnbull, a sophomore from Daytona Beach, Fla., finishing second in the 58 kg category and Susanna Sanchez, a freshman from Alvin, Texas, winning the bronze in the 48 kg category. In the Men's Division, Aaron Adams, a junior from Vineland, N.J., and Shaughnessey McDermott, a junior from Placentia, Calif., finished third in the 62 kg and 105 kg categories, respectively. Contributing to the men's team point total were Chris Kim, a senior from Shreveport, and Aaron Cunanan, a senior from Indianapolis, Ind. 

The 2011 USA Weightlifting National Collegiate Championships will be held in Shreveport in 2011. LSUS has hosted 20 international and national weightlifting events since 1991.
