LSUS Lady Pilots Lose to 13th Ranked Xavier Golden Nuggets, 59-40

January 22, 2004
The LSUS Lady Pilots played host to the Nationally Ranked 13th seed in NAIA Women’s Basketball, the Xavier Golden Nuggets Thursday night. The Lady pilots were coming off their biggest win of season versus Southern University of New Orleans last Saturday night, and were looking to get back in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) race and improve to 2-4 in conference action.

The Golden Nuggets started with some very intense defensive pressure that created 14 turnovers in the first half. Courtney Williams led the offensive attack for Xavier going 3 for 3 from behind the 3-point line. Williams finished the first half as the leading scorer with 9 points. Kendera Monnete led the Lady Pilots with 6 points and 2 blocked shots in the half. Renalda Stafford and Dyamond Hogg each finished with 5 points. The Lady Pilots trailed 39-22 at the break.

Xavier continued to control the tempo in the second half, but a better defensive effort by the Lady Pilots held the Golden Nuggets to only 20 points in the half. LSUS however could not manage to pick up their scoring pace as they were held to only 18 points in the second half. Alisson Williams finished with a game high 9 rebounds and was also the games top scorer with 13 points. Renalda Stafford and Kendera Monette finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds a piece.

The Lady Pilots are now 5-11 on the year, 1-4 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Lady Pilots will be in action again this weekend when they take on the University of Mobile, Rams Saturday afternoon, and will then head to Springhill College to take on the Badgers Monday night.
