LSUS downs Millsaps, 103-63

The LSUS Pilots (16-11, 8-6) hosted the Millsaps College Majors of Jackson, MS Monday night. Fresh off their biggest victory of the year Saturday night versus 12th ranked Xavier University, the Pilots looked to build on their recent success going into their last 5 games of the regular season. The Pilots did just that as they went on to defeat the Majors by a final score of 103-63.
The Pilots jumped out to an early 13-3 lead at the 14:55 mark and never looked back. Derrick Sowell dominated the offensive end for the Pilots in the first half scoring 15 points and pulling down 6 rebounds. The Pilots went on to build a 43-28 lead by the half. Fredericko Payne ended with 10 points on 4 of 10 shooting. In the first half the Pilots were 18-37 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. The Majors were 10-25 from the field including 5-10 from the three-point line. Demetrus Caldwell was the high scorer in the half for Millsaps with 6.
In the second half, LSUS controlled the tempo from start to finish. The Pilots finished with 3 players scoring over 20 points. Derrick Sowell had a game high 24 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Derrick Rogers pitched in with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Fredericko Payne ended with the games only double-double on the night finishing with 22 points and 10 boards. LSUS connected on 41-78 from the field, 8-21 from beyond the three point line. Tyler Warren finished with 16 point and 6 rebounds to lead the Majors. Millsaps College shot 24-59 from the field, and were 11-27 from behind the 3 point line.
LSUS will continue their 4 game home stand Thursday night when they will host Dillard University (18-8, 8-5) in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action. The Pilots will then take on the Springhill College Badgers Saturday night beginning at 7:00pm.
