LSUS Baseball Wins Again

March 10, 2009

Shreveport, La. - The LSUS Pilots continued their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Texas College 11-6 in a non-conference game at Pilot Field.

With one of the best offenses in the country entering today's game, the Pilots expected to take advantage of a struggling Texas College pitching staff and a strong win blowing out to centerfield.  LSUS clawed their way to five runs through the first four innings before finally exploding in the bottom of the fifth for four runs.

Texas College made the game interesting in the top of the fifth with three runs off of LSUS starter Mason Free, but back-to-back homeruns by Brandon Bravata and Andrew Blubaugh helped the Pilots increase their lead back to six runs.  Bravata's long ball was a two-run shot, while Blubaugh followed up with an inside-the-park homerun.

After scoring two runs in the seventh, the Steers loaded the bases with just one out in the top of the eighth. However, LSUS reliever Turner Brasher came in and picked up two huge outs to end the threat.

Gino Spratley (2-1) picked up the win, but it was Brasher that saved the day on the mound for the Pilots.  Brasher allowed just one hit in 1.2 innings pitched, while striking out two and walking none.

Andrew Brouillette had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Pilots offensively, while Chase Wentz, Jeffrey Garidel and Bravata each finished with two hits apiece.  Wentz also homered in the contest.

The Pilots are now 24-3 on the season and will take on the Mobile Rams in a three-game conference series beginning on Friday night.  However, due to the threat of rain throughout the rest of the week, game times could be changed.  Please check back with this website frequently for any updates.
