LSUS Baseball sweeps RRAC POW honors

WACO, Tex. - Greg Friesen of LSU Shreveport blasted his way to the Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week award for Feb. 6-12, while the Pilots' Matt Lackie collected the RRAC Pitcher of the Week award for the same dates.

Friesen, a junior first baseman from Regina, Sask., drove in five runs last week as the Pilots won three games against ranked teams. He was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs in an 11-2 win over no. 21 Southern Poly (Ga.), and he scored two runs as LSUS defeated seventh-ranked Cumberland University (Tenn.). He closed the week with four hits, including a pair of doubles, to pound no. 15 Belhaven University (Miss.), 11-3. For the week, Friesen was 7-for-11 with four runs scored and four walks. The Pilots extended their unbeaten mark to 6-0.

Lackie, a senior pitcher from McKinney, Texas, tossed six innings allowing only four hits to vanquish Cumberland, 9-0. He struck out six and walked two en route to the decision.

Scott Frazier of the University of Texas-Brownsville, Adam Humes of Northwood University (Texas), Kyle Pietryga of Bacone College (Okla.) and Christian Soberanes of Texas Wesleyan University were also nominated for player of the week. Additional pitcher of the week nominees included Zach Armstrong of UTB, Bryan Kinard of Northwood, Justin McGee of Bacone, and Dillon Wilson of TWU.
